Hooray for Smack Dab’s!

Tonight Holmes, Lira and I got on the road and headed to Smack Dab’s OTC for some BN practice for Holmes. When we got there tonight, no one else showed up for the drop in, so Kathy Fay was kind enough to run us through some BN work. Holmes did excellent. He is great at keeping pace. She gave me some extra great tips on where to hold my hands (and I never really know where to put them anyway), and if I need to urge Holmes a little in the ring what will take off the least amount of points. We had nearly a whole hour to ourselves – a wonderful private lesson! Kathy also has a wonderful puppy Kindergarten class which Lira will be starting next Thursday. They do a lot of socialization, including a “puppy circle” where each person has a chance to play with each puppy so they learn to become used to being handled by different people. They do basic lead training, sits, downs, recalls, and “settle” which sets the groundwork for everything else! They also have puppy “play time” and they have an obstacle course for confidence building with the puppy. Her puppy class is the first dog class of any kind that I ever took – 17 years ago. It hooked me then, so I can’t wait for round two! After the puppy class I’ll be able to work Holmes a little in the ring with the drop in class. His Rally class is on Wednesday, and then next Tuesday is his match. Now I’m really having fun!!! Weee!!!
